oops

So, I did something really stupid last night.

I was working on homework and didn't want to break to go to the caf, so I decided to make some Pasta Roni in my room. (They're these amazing little dual-serving boxes of microwavable pasta in all kinds of flavors, and best of all they're cheap. Which is why I have a constant supply of 'em in my room.) The last time I was grocery shopping I found a new flavor and it sounded delicious so I bought it. That was my first mistake.

Anyway, I made this delicious pasta and ate it at my desk while working on my homework. I was really careful not to burn my tongue off like I did the last time I made pasta. After it was all gone (yes, I ate both servings lol--shut up, I was hungry) I continued to do my homework at my desk when I noticed something. It seemed like I was out of breath, and I hadn't been moving (except to put the pasta bowl in the sink, but that's not exactly strenuous.) I sat there and pondered that for awhile, then continued to do my homework. Yes, I am completely brilliant.

Later Daylene and Annalisa were going to work out and asked if I wanted to go with them. I thought about it and realized that it kind of felt like I was having an asthma attack. Which was weird, because I haven't had any trouble with asthma since I moved to PUC (my asthma is heavily area-influenced--I had it in San Luis Obispo area, didn't in the San Diego area, had it again in Redding, and it's gone again in the Napa Valley.) I was confused, but it really felt like asthma, especially now that I could feel my bronchial tubes closing and it was getting harder and harder to breath (pant, pant, pant) (thanks, Maroon 5.)

Suddenly it occurred to me--hey, on occasion I have food allergies. I'm allergic to artichokes in particular, and when I eat them (on accident of course) doesn't it feel a lot like this? Yes, yes it does. With an "oh, crap" I immediately dug through the trash can to check the ingredients of the pasta, but I didn't see any artichokes. Still, I couldn't breathe and it started very soon after I ate the pasta, so there must have been something in there. Luckily I had a few Benadryl in a Ziploc bag and took them immediately. I threw in my regular allergy pill for good measure and called Dan and made him talk to me until the medicine started to kick in (it was scary, okay?) I realized that if I coughed it would open up my throat for a few seconds, so that helped. Eventually I started to get sleepy (thanks to the Benadryl no doubt) so I went to bed early. I woke up a few times because of the whole hard-to-breathe thing, but when I woke up at 3am it was completely gone.

Still, though. Maybe I should find out what was in that pasta that made my throat close up... and remember what it is, so I can avoid it next time. Also, maybe I shouldn't sit around and let my throat close up for a good half hour before doing something about it. My genius astounds even me.
